Student Perspective

"I've always had a love for music. I grew up playing the piano and there was no doubt about joining the band when I started Jr. High. I initially started playing the clarinet but the saxophone immediately intrigued and compelled me, and I haven't put it down since. As I continued playing through high school, I began to explore and discover new techniques on my saxophone. I looked forward to playing everyday. I then began to take lessons with Sarah and learned so much. She introduced me to new styles of music and my playing improved dramatically. I love playing the saxophone because it allows me to be free and to express myself musically, something that I can't do in any other way. The saxophone is so versatile, I can play anything from slow, moving pieces to jazz and more. The saxophone will always be one of my joys in life."

"Being a pianist-turned-saxophonist, learning to the play the saxophone has been an absolutely wonderful experience for me. Playing the saxophone has opened up a whole new side of music that I had previously not known about. What makes the saxophone so enjoyable to play, is the fact that it is such a diverse instrument. Being popular in numerous styles, ranging from classical to modern pop, no matter your music preference, you are sure to find a side of the saxophone that you can grow with and love. Its diversity also allows for many performance opportunities. As a high school student, I have already been given the opportunity to play within a concert band, a jazz ensemble, and deliver solo performances. Lastly, I believe that playing any instrument is an extremely wonderful skill to have as it is an ability that you can carry with you for the rest of your life. Music is a life-long journey since there are so many different areas to explore, and so many different ways to improve. So whether you are young or old, learning to play an instrument could undoubtedly be one of the best decisions you could ever make."
